At the October meeting, church council approved two grants that our Endowment Committee had recommended. First, $750 was awarded to Gifts of Hope. Gifts of Hope is an alternative gift-giving program that serves as an intermediary between donors and organizations serving individuals and families in need locally and internationally. This program is a ministry of our Synod. Carolyn Sowinski, member of GS, serves as the Director. Secondly, $1000 was awarded to Lutheran Church of the Covenant in Dale City, VA. This Metro DC Synod sister congregation plans to do a Rise Against Hunger event in 2020 for 40,000 people and engage the community.
With these distributions, our Endowment Fund has now awarded more than $25,000 in scholarships/grants over the last 3 years. We are grateful for those who have remembered Good Shepherd in their legacy plans. Their gifts are the backbone of this fund. As others follow their lead and as we continue to invest wisely, we will be able to give ministry grants/scholarships for decades to come. If you’d like to learn more about how to remember Good Shepherd in your legacy plans, please let me know. I’d be honored to help. Pastor Dave
