Celebrating Bold Women: This Sunday & Every Sunday

In 2016, Leymah Gbowee was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. She did so by following a dream where she heard God say to her, "Gather the women and pray for peace!" By organizing the women of faith of Liberia- Christians and Muslims- to hold unconventional protests for peace, she helped bring an end to the Civil War that had been raging for 14 years.

She writes:

“We must continue to unite in sisterhood to turn our tears into triumph. There is no time to rest until our world achieves wholeness and balance, where all men and women are considered equal and free.”

Together, when all men and women are considered equal, we can do truly powerful things. Today we celebrate the bold women of scripture- Sarah and Mary, Esther and Miriam- and the bold women of today- Leymah Gbowee and Malala Yousafzai and Pastor Beth Platz (the first female Lutheran Pastor in America). At Good Shepherd, we celebrate the leadership of women not just this one Sunday, but all through the year, and strive for a day when women’s contributions will be honored equally across the globe.
