Classes for the Youngest Kids

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is committed to its Baptismal promise to pray for, encourage and support the spiritual development of all its children. We provide each child with a toddler's Bible at Baptism and enroll him/her in our Cradle Roll. The Cradle Roll is a series of religious newsletters that are sent regularly to the families of infants and toddlers. There is also a special class for these children during the Sunday School hour in our church nursery. In this Nursery class there is a very simple Bible lesson and lots of free play. This class introduces the church as a friendly, loving place to the children.

Our Preschool classes - We have two preschool classes - one for children who are 3 years old by September 1 and potty-trained and one for 4-year olds. The Preschool Class for three year olds meets in Room 102 and the Preschool Class for four year olds meets in Room 101. Classes use Gospel Light's Sunday School curriculum. The curriculum uses crafts, games and activities to introduce the children to simple Bible stories. Children attending the Preschool classes receive a Rhyme Bible which provides the parents a great, age-appropriate way to introduce the children to the scriptures at home as well.

Our Kindergarten class is for children currently in Kindergarten. It uses Augsburg Fortress' Spark curriculum. The grouping of the Kindergarten class separately allows these children to start to build a community within their grade level as they prepare to enter the Elementary Rotation Sunday School next year. The Kindergarten class currently meets in Room 100 (downstairs in the Education Wing). During their Kindergarten year, children receive a Bible designed for young readers for home use.
