Rotation Sunday School for Elementary Grades (1-5)
The Rotation Sunday School model was adopted by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in the 2002-2003 school year. Elementary-aged students are grouped in classes according to their grade level. Each class has the same “shepherds” (or counselors) every week. The shepherds join the students at different workshops (or classrooms) each week. The classes rotate through 4 different hour long workshops, one each week, that teach the same core Bible stories through different formats. Each workshop has its own teacher(s). Currently the workshops are:
- Performing arts (Acts of God Workshop)
- Arts and crafts (Creation Corner Workshop)
- Games and activities (Faith in Action Workshop) and
- Videos (Holy Word Cinema Workshop)
The Rotation format is more engaging than a traditional class because the students' activities change radically from week to week. The format also helps students learn Bible lessons more completely because of the repetition in themes and use of different mediums to explain the same lessons.
Finding your classroom is easy. Simply go to the upper level of the Education Wing of Good Shepherd during the Sunday School hour and look at the little white signs hanging above the doors. The signs indicate which grades are visiting each workshop classroom that week.
The theme this year is "Living like a Hero." We will be learning about the following Bible heros: David, Esther, Daniel, John the Baptist, Jesus, The Good Samaritan, the Women at Easter, Paul and Martin Luther.
